With an engineering background and experience as in-house counsel for a leading technology company, Shaun Zhang employs legal acumen, technical precision, and a trained business sense when handling his clients’ high-stakes issues, such as patent infringement, trade secrets misappropriation, and other commercial disputes.

An experienced litigator and trusted advisor, Shaun frequently handles cases that involve deep scientific and technical subject matter. Clients across a range of industries value his ability to dissect complex issues and distill them into clear and compelling arguments.

Representative Engagements

  • Retained by Fortune 10 technology leader and other major companies to advise on patent strategy, including conducting analysis for litigation, licensing, patent acquisitions, and negotiations.
  • Represented a technology innovator in multiple patent-infringement suits in the Eastern District of Texas and the Central District of California. After sweeping victories on summary-judgment, Daubert, and pre-trial motions, Shaun’s team secured a historically favorable result on the eve of the first trial.
  • Defended Fortune 5 consumer-electronics company in a case in the District of Delaware involving breach of contract, patent, and trade secret claims relating to the design of wide-angle camera lenses. After securing early wins on a motion to dismiss certain claims, Shaun’s team obtained a stipulation of dismissal of all contract and trade secret claims with prejudice.
  • Represented major professional sports league in a patent, trade-secret, and contract matter relating to the display of video graphics in the Southern District of New York.
  • Defended leading financial technology company in a patent-infringement case in the Western District of Texas involving automated payment technology. After uncovering new claim construction arguments, secured favorable resolution for the client.
  • Defended major professional sports league and major streaming service provider in a patent-infringement action involving video streaming technology. After developing patent-eligibility defenses, obtained an early dismissal of all claims.
  • Represented Fortune 5 consumer-electronics company in several patent-infringement cases in the Northern District of California relating to telecommunications, user-interface, computer-security, and battery technologies. Shaun’s team secured complete victory in multiple cases based on constitutional standing grounds.
  • Defended Fortune 5 consumer-electronics company in a patent-infringement dispute relating to digital-mapping technologies. The matter resolved immediately after the East Texas court issued its Markman order that provided the client with several new non-infringement arguments.
  • Represented market-leading technology, chemical, and industrial company in patent infringement suits in the District of Nevada and the District of Delaware concerning touch-screen technology.
  • Represented market-leading medical device manufacturer in patent infringement suits concerning medical waste technology and endoscopic camera designs.
  • Represented a Fortune 100 chemical manufacturer in thousands of environmental and products liability claims in state and federal courts nationwide relating to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). These claims were brought by individuals, municipalities, and states alleging groundwater contamination and personal injury as individual claims, consolidated proceedings, and class actions.
