RSHC Partner Dave Resnicoff discussed challenges and best practices for monitorships as part of civil and criminal law enforcement resolutions on the American Health Law Association’s (AHLA) September podcast “Speaking of Health Law” with co-presenter Rob Cepielik of BRG. Dave and Rob discussed the potential risks and value of monitorships, and tips for successful implementation, such as the importance of developing a “partnership” and alignment with all stakeholders; the key components of any work plan; differences when the monitor is an accountant or an attorney; the challenges of a dual reporting relationship; and responses to discovery of potential new violations of law.

Patricia Brown Holmes will be speaking at the September 22-24 Northwestern Pritzker School of Law’s Corporate Social Conscience virtual event. Prominent speakers who help shape the current legal markets will discuss corporate and securities law including M&A, corporate governance, and SEC updates.

RSHC Partner Dave Resnicoff will moderate the April 14 panel on measuring effectiveness of global compliance programs at ACI’s Advanced Forum on FCPA & Anti-Corruption for the Life Sciences Industry. A panel of distinguished in-house compliance executives will join Dave to discuss the impact of the DOJ’s June 2020 compliance guidance and perspectives on building compliance programs that withstand government scrutiny.

Attorney Bruce Wagman will present on the Wild and Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act and on cases involving the Act. Bruce will go over the statutory language, discuss the interpretation of the law by the courts and the government in the last two decades, and provide his thoughts on the current state of the law in this area.

RSHC attorney Bruce Wagman will be a panelist at the Tennessee Bar Association (TBA)’s From Cruelty to Compassion: Animal Rescue and Animal Law webinar. Topics covered will be a case study involving the discovery and rescue of neglected animals, many in need of immediate medical care, and the corresponding and complex legal consequences of these efforts.

RSHC attorney Bruce Wagman will be presenting at the California Animal Law Symposium 2021. At the Symposium, “Exotic Animals: Understanding the Issues and Using Litigation and Legislation to Combat Abuse,” Bruce will discuss the use of exotic animals in entertainment. Other panels will address the overfishing of sharks and rays, ending exotic animal ownership, and the “Tiger King” tragedy.

RSHC Partner Dave Resincoff will moderate the March 18 “Prosecutorial Perspectives on Recent Settlements, OIG’s Guidance, and Enforcement Priorities for 2021” session at the American Conference Institute (ACI) Special Briefing, Fraud & Abuse in the Sales and Marketing of Drugs & Medical Devices. A panel of top federal healthcare fraud prosecutors will discuss the state of industry compliance, DOJ interpretation of the OIG’s Special Fraud Alert and its impact on future enforcement, industry practices under scrutiny, and potential shifts in priorities under the Biden administration.

The Illinois Judges Association (IJA) and the Illinois Supreme Court Commission on Professionalism (2Civility) are launching a three-part educational series, “Building Confidence in Our Legal System,” aimed at addressing racial disparities and other equity issues in Illinois’ legal system. RSHC Managing Partner Patricia Brown Holmes will lead the March 11 session, “Civil Procedures.”

Nick Kahlon will present to the Association of Corporate Counsel on “Trade Secrets: Navigating The Wild, Wild West of Protection, Enforcement, and Damages.” The presentation will include an in depth discussion of successful tactics in trade secrets litigation, damages theories, and complementary tools for effective dispute resolution.
