RSHC’s Bruce Wagman partnered with an elite team from Latham & Watkins, representing the San Francisco Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and other plaintiffs in a groundbreaking lawsuit seeking to permanently remove restrictions on California pet owners’ and veterinarians’ First Amendment rights to use pet telemedicine. This important case asserts that the California state veterinary board limits on telemedicine are unconstitutional and violate the First Amendment.

Brenna Woodley co-authored Trade Secret Remedies and the Inevitable Disclosure Doctrine, which appears in the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education’s 2021 Edition of Intellectual Property Law. The IICLE provides continuing legal education for Illinois attorneys. Brenna’s piece, published on April 20, 2021, discusses the latest developments regarding remedies in cases involving trade secret misappropriation and related claims under state and federal law, including claims under the Illinois Trade Secrets Act and federal Defend Trade Secrets Act.

Riley Safer Holmes & Cancila has been recognized by Chambers as “a true diversity and inclusion pioneer for the legal profession.” RSHC has been shortlisted as one of 12 U.S. finalists for the Chambers D&I North America 2021 “Outstanding Firm for Furthering Diversity and Inclusion” award, which aims to recognize a firm that is demonstrating broadly measurable impact in advocating for and implementing an inclusive work environment with originality and deep commitment. Bruce Wagman and Erin Gasparka represented Return to Freedom in efforts to stop inhumane and illegal surgeries being performed by the federal government on wild horses. In response to the lawsuit, the Bureau of Land Management has agreed not to begin the controversial and dangerous sterilization surgeries.

Greg Curtner provided commentary on recent arguments in the Supreme Court case that will decide the future of amateurism in college athletics. In his piece "Amateurism Is Not a Horizontal Price Fix," Curtner unpacks what took place during the March 31 arguments, noting that the discussion included a "jumble of half-baked antitrust concepts, polemics rather than facts, and lack of focus on the legitimate issues before the Court."

RSHC Partner Dave Resnicoff will moderate the April 14 panel on measuring effectiveness of global compliance programs at ACI’s Advanced Forum on FCPA & Anti-Corruption for the Life Sciences Industry. A panel of distinguished in-house compliance executives will join Dave to discuss the impact of the DOJ’s June 2020 compliance guidance and perspectives on building compliance programs that withstand government scrutiny.

RSHC Managing Partner Patricia Brown Holmes has been selected to serve on Law360’s 2021 Hospitality Editorial Advisory Board. The nine-member board provides feedback on Law360’s reporting around legal issues impacting the hospitality industry and expert insight on how best to shape future coverage.

RSHC attorney Bruce Wagman will be a panelist at the Tennessee Bar Association (TBA)’s From Cruelty to Compassion: Animal Rescue and Animal Law webinar. Topics covered will be a case study involving the discovery and rescue of neglected animals, many in need of immediate medical care, and the corresponding and complex legal consequences of these efforts.

RSHC attorney Bruce Wagman will be presenting at the California Animal Law Symposium 2021. At the Symposium, “Exotic Animals: Understanding the Issues and Using Litigation and Legislation to Combat Abuse,” Bruce will discuss the use of exotic animals in entertainment. Other panels will address the overfishing of sharks and rays, ending exotic animal ownership, and the “Tiger King” tragedy.

A panel of top federal healthcare fraud prosecutors will discuss the state of industry compliance, DOJ interpretation of the OIG’s Special Fraud Alert and its impact on future enforcement, industry practices under scrutiny, and potential shifts in priorities under the Biden administration.
